FC Goa transfer news: National team defender Sandesh Jhingan set to join Goa to replace outgoing Anwar Ali

Dependable and Indian football team's centre-back Sandesh Jhingan is reportedly set to join Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Goa for the next season after his existing contract with Bengaluru FC expires at the end of the season, in May 31st.

The Indian Super League 2022-2023 season has just ended the teams are now already working to improve their team for the next season. One of the team that is certainly going through a major revamp is FC Goa.

The Goa based side were one of the most consistent team in the league until the last 2 seasons. And now, the club is going through a huge change, starting off with the head coach. Former FC Goa captain Carlos Pena was the head coach of the team this season, however the club could only finish 7th, 1 place below the Hero ISL Playoffs position.

Pena is set to part ways with the club as Hyderabad FC's ISL winning head coach Manolo Marquez is set to join the club as their head coach from next season onwards after his stint with Hyderabad FC ends after May.

Under Manolo Marquez, FC Goa would look to regain its lost glory and the process starts with the signature of Indian football team's centre-back Sandesh Jhingan, who is set to replace his national team compatriot Anwar Ali, who is set to join ATK Mohun Bagan (to be named Mohun Bagan Super Giants next season) on a four year long deal as per Times of India.

Anwar Ali was on loan with the Goa based club from 2nd Division League club Delhi FC. He played for the club 2 seasons and his loan expires on the 31st of May, after which he will join his new club. As such, FC Goa someone who can straightaway replace Anwar in the team and there was no better option than Sandesh Jhingan, whose contract ends with Bengaluru FC on 31st May as well.

Jhingan's been a long servant to the Kerala Blasters before a dispute led to the defender choosing to not renew with the club. He eventually joined ATK Mohun Bagan in 2020. Next season, he went out to Croatia to give European football a try, however, failed to prove himself and returned to ATK Mohun Bagan once again.

However, his late decision making annoyed the management and the coach Juan Ferrando, which eventually led to Jhingan leaving the club and joining Bengaluru FC on a season long deal. Excitingly, Juan Ferrando wanted Jhingan to join FC Goa when he was the head coach of the club and when Jhingan left Kerala Blasters, however the club failed to agree a deal with him.
