As soon as the new year arrived and the winter transfer window opened, Chennai based Indian Super League (ISL) side Chennaiyin FC has struck a deal to bring back former striker Nerijus Valskis from Jamshedpur FC.
Under the new manager Bozidar Bandovic, Chennaiyin FC has been rock solid on the back till they concededed 4 goals against Bengaluru FC in their recently concluded match.
Before which, the team had only conceded 7 goals, and were one of the least goal conceding team of the ISL this season. But, their record upfront was not good. While they scored 2 goals against Bengaluru FC, before that, they had only scored 6 goals from 7 matches.
Chennaiyin FC had signed Polish striker Lukasz Gikiewicz during the summer window, but his goal return is just not good, or rather, he has failed to score a single goal in 8 appearances and has only 1 assist to his name.
However, let us also let you know that Lukasz Gikiewicz was never their first choice striker. The Chennai team had tried their best to bring back Valskis during the summer window, however, a deal was not finalized.
Transfer News: Nerijus Valskis set for Homecoming
But this time finally, Chennaiyin FC has struck the deal as Nerijus Valskis and Jamshedpur FC have agreed to part ways after Valskis got an offer to rejoin the team that had brought him to India.
Nerijus Valskis arrived in the Indian Football scenes for the Indian Super League (ISL) 2019-2020 season. In his debut season itself, the Lithuanian striker won the Golden Boot with 15 goals to his name and guided Chennaiyin FC to the final, but, were handed defeated by the erstwhile ATK FC.
However, the next season, i.e. Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-2021, both Valskis and Chennaiyin FC's Head Coach Owen Coyle joined Jamshedpur FC. Valskis returned with 8 goals from 18 matches in that season.
The 34-year-old striker is out of favour at Jamshedpur FC this season, with reports of issues between Owen Coyle and him and has been looking for a way out since the season started.
The news has created ripples among the Chennaiyin FC fans as they are set to welcome back their hero. The fans are expecting that the goal scoring issue will be solved with Valskis coming in.
