NorthEast United FC already look a much improved team in this new Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-2024 season compare to the last season when the club finished a barebone last with just only 1 win that came against the eventual ISL Cup winners ATK Mohun Bagan.
Under the new leadership of Juan Pedro Benali, NorthEast United have improved considerably. They almost beat the defending ISL champions Mumbai City FC in their first match, but Jorge Pereyra Diaz scored a brace to take away their joy. However, they bounced back really well and have got their first win of the season after beating Chennaiyin FC in their previous match on Friday.
What is most special about NorthEast United FC that was present in both their matches so far this season, is Parthib Sundar Gogoi and his perfectly executed goals from outside the box.
In the match against Mumbai City FC, Parthib Gogoi scored a brilliant goal from outside the box and repeat the same vs Chennaiyin FC on Friday when he scored his 2nd goal of the ISL season, again from outside the box.
Parthib Gogoi is making every NorthEast United FC fans believe that this is their season. Gogoi has already become a hero among the NorthEast United FC fans. What is more interesting is that, he is just 20-years-old.
As Parthib Gogoi continues to impress the fans, more bigger clubs are now looking at the prospect of bringing the winger to their club. This could be a big dilemma for the NorthEast United, whether to sell him for a big price, or whether he will be their next hero.
Parthib Sundar Gogoi; NorthEast United FC Superstar or a Big Sellable Asset
It is not unknown that NorthEast United has been struggling financially and have been struggling to fight with the other teams in the league, in terms of league position as well as in terms of keeping their main players.
Apuia is a big example. The midfielder rose through the ranks of NorthEast United and once he announced himself to the big stage, winning the Emerging Player of the Season, Mumbai City FC snapped him for a huge transfer fee the next season itself.
Now NorthEast United FC will have to decide whether they want to be selling club, or prefer to groom their own players and give them opportunities to shine, who eventually will take the Highlanders towards the dream they desire.
As for Parthib Sundar Gogoi, he will have to consider where his future lies and how he wants his career to progress. The biggest dilemma for him would be whether to say welcome to money, or show loyalty to his club, that gave him game time, and continue wearing that NorthEast United FC Jersey, that could eventually earn him the Indian football team jersey.
He will have to consider what happened to Apuia when he left NorthEast United to join Mumbai City FC. The player has not looked the same, is being excluded from the Indian football team. Parthib will have to consider his future wisely, gametime should be the priority.
And even if Parthib Gogoi wants to join a big club, he should look to prove himself at NorthEast United, enough so that wherever he goes, he becomes an obvious starter. Take for example Anwar Ali. After spending two seasons on loan with FC Goa, Anwar made a big move to Mohun Bagan Super Giant and is starting every match. For Parthib, choosing his next step is crucial.
