Indian Super League (ISL) club Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) has officially complete the signing of Indian football team and Chennaiyin FC midfielder Anirudh Thapa for a huge transfer fee ahead of the Indian football 2023-2024 season.

Mohun Bagan set to sign Anirudh Thapa from Chennaiyin FC

The transfer window in Indian football opened back in the day on 9th June. All the clubs have been very busy with all the transfer activities. Mohun Bagan, the defending Indian Super League champions, are going all guns blazing in the transfer market to bring in players who can help them defend the title.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant has already completed the signing of Indian defender Anwar Ali and Australia striker Jason Cummings ahead of the new Indian football season.

After completing all those deals, the club was Chennaiyin FC's midfielder and their captain Anirudh Thapa, who is currently playing for the Indian team in the Hero Intercontinental Cup. 

And now according to reports by IFTWC and various other sources, Mohun Bagan have completed the signing of Anirudh Thapa on a 5 years with the green and maroon brigade set to pay 3 crore transfer fee to Chennaiyin FC. Thapa will also earn 3 crore per season.

Anirudh Thapa is a very important member of the Indian football team. His set-piece taking ability has been immensely useful. Thapa, the 25-years-old, has been a member of the Chennaiyin FC since 2017 joining them from Minerva Punjab FC. He was also the club captain last season.

Mohun Bagan had been keeping track of the midfielder for 3 seasons and finally managed to struck a deal this season. The club was leading the race to sign left-back Akash Mishra, but they backed off once they got to know that Thapa is available in the market this season.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant has entered the transfer market all gun blazing this season. The Kolkata based side already has completed the signing of defender Anwar Ali while A-League winning striker Jason Cummings is also set to join them. 

Club captain Pritam Kotal is very much on his way out to join Kerala Blasters while foreigners like Federico Gallego and Tiri has been released while Slavko Damjanovic, who joined in January, is also likely to join Bengaluru FC. Kerala's Ruivah Hormipam is also set to join Mohun Bagan as part of a swap deal with Kotal.

Chennaiyin FC transfer news

Chennaiyin FC has already announced departure of all 6 of their foreign players with a new head coach to take the helm. Other than that, Aakash Sangwan could be heading to FC Goa while East Bengal is negotiating for Rahim Ali. The club is reportedly likely to sign NorthEast United striker Wilmar Jordan Gill. Indian players such as Sweden Fernandes, Naorem Tondonba Singh, Redeem Tlang, Ankit Mukherjee are also being discussed to join the club. 

Meanwhile, according to recent reports, Chennaiyin FC is also interested in getting the services of Kerala Blasters' poster boy Sahal Abdul Samad, however the deal at the moment is very unlikely as Kerala Blasters would prefer to keep the player.
