Indian Super League club FC Goa is set to complete the signing of Australian midfielder Paulo Retre from the Australian A-League club Sydney FC as a replacement for departing club legend Edu Bedia for the upcoming Indian Super League 2023-2024 season of the Indian football.

After the end of the Indian Super League and Indian football 2022-2023 season, the Hero ISL club FC Goa and club captain and defensive midfielder Edu Bedia, hailed as a club legend, parted ways with FC Goa embarking on a new journey with Manolo Marquez Roca at the helm as new head coach.

After FC Goa finished 7th in the league table last season and missing out on the 6th and the final playoffs spot for the Hero ISL Playoffs, FC Goa now looks for a rebuild. The new head coach is already at work, trying to build a formidable squad for the next season.

With Edu Bedia playing a key role at the heart of the midfield, it was always going to be a tough ask to replace him and FC Goa have found Sydney FC's Australian defensive midfielder Paulo Retre as the perfect replacement.

Paulo has playing for the Sydney FC side since joining them back in the year 2017. The 30-years-old midfielder is quite a good footballer, with his brilliant vision, he can open up the midfield and defence and create a clear goal scoring opportunity for his side.

Paulo's contract with the Sydney side is set to expire on June 30 this year and is set to join FC Goa for free. In the 23 A-League league stage matches that Retre featured in the A-League 2022-2023 season, he provided 2 assists and scored a goal as well.

FC Goa have been very busy in this transfer market so far, bringing in top players as they aim to make their way back to the top of the pile and look to return to title race again after some seasons of failure. It all started with new head coach Manolo Marquez joining from Hyderabad FC to replace Carlos Pena.

And so far, FC Goa have signed Sandesh Jhingan to replace outgoing Anwar Ali, while winger Udanta Singh has joined from Bengaluru FC. Boris Singh has been acquired to add more competition to the right side of the play while Rowlin Borges has joined on loan from Mumbai City FC.

Manolo Marquez is also set to bring in his dependable defender Odei Onaindia from Hyderabad FC. David Timor is another defensive midfielder rumoured to join Goa while they have signed veteran striker Carlos Martínez from LaLiga 2 club FC Andorra. In terms of Indian signings, Aakash Sangwan, Raynier Fernandes and Aizawl's Lalthanmawia are some other targets for the Goan side.
