Indian Super League 2021-2022: Top Developmental Player Signings

It was a summer in Indian football packed with top signing all around every clubs in the Indian Super League as well as in the I-League so far.

The Indian Super League new player registration rule states that it is mandatory for every Indian Super League clubs to include the a minimum of 4 developmental players (Under 21 Players) in the squad, of which, 2 has to be part of the match day squad.

This summer transfer window, there were some top Under 21 players who changed club while some arrived into the Indian Super League from the I-League or some other regional leagues.

Indian Super League 2021-2022: Top Developmental Player Signings

Today, Indian Football News lists out some of the top Under 21 (U21) players who joined an Indian Super League club, the list only includes players who joined inside the transfer window.

1. Lalengmawia Ralte (Apuia)

Apuia or Lalengmawia Ralte is for sure the biggest Under 21 signing of the summer as he joins the Mumbai City FC team from the NorthEast United FC for a reported transfer fee of more than 2 crore INR.

Apuia had a breakthrough season with the NorthEast United last season in the Indian Super League playing in that defensive pivot, the defensive midfielder. Gerard Nus also handed him the captain's arm band for a match. 

He won the Emerging Player of the Season award and also made his Indian national team debut during India's friendly match against Oman.

2. Amarjit Singh Kiyam

Amarjit Singh Kiyam joined the SC East Bengal team on loan from the FC Goa right towards the end of the transfer window. Amarjit Singh, the defensive midfielder was the captain of the India Under 17 team in the FIFA U17 World Cup played in India in 2017.

Amarjit Singh joined FC Goa earlier this year during the January transfer window from Jamshedpur FC. The midfielder struggled to get game time in the ISL but played well in the AFC Champions League. He joins SC East Bengal on loan in the hope to prove himself.

3. Ruivah Hormipam

Kerala Blasters's latest acquisition Ruivah Hormipam was one of the best defender in the I-League last season. Hormipam has made the step up as he has joined Kerala Blasters from Roundglass Punjab FC for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Ruivah Hormipam could prove to be a great addition in that Kerala defense which struggled last season even in the presence of some of the top names.

4. Ricky Shabong

Ricky Shabong, or Ricky John Shabong was unsure whether he would get the call-up to the Indian Super League. The defensive midfielder was one of the best player for Indian Arrows in the previous seasons, but was in search of a club in the ISL. And when ATK Mohun Bagan missed out on Apuia signing, they went after youngster and called him on trial.

Ricky Shabong impressed ATK Mohun Bagan coach Antonio Lopez Habas and earned the contract at the club. He was also part of the ATK Mohun Bagan squad that travelled to Maldives for AFC Cup, but didn't got any appearance. He will be looking to prove himself in the coming months.

5. Komal Thatal

Another India U17 World Cup player Komal Thatal, who failed to impress coach Antonio Habas in ATK Mohun Bagan, has finally made the switch to the Men of Steel as he joins Jamshedpur FC for the upcoming season.

Komal Thatal was touted as one of the upcoming stars of the Indian Football but lack of game time has really cost him. The right-winger will be looking to reignite himself playing for the Jamshedpur FC team in the coming seasons.
