Mohun Bagan I-League 2019-2020 squad where are they now?

Mohun Bagan returned back to winning the Indian top league in the 2019-2020 season after winning the I-League that season since last winning the competition in 2015 after a thrilling match against Bengaluru FC. Kibu Vicuna, the head coach of the team that season, became a fan favorite after helping Mohun Bagan win their 2nd I-league title.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant who are greatly challenging for the Indian Super League League Championship this after wining the Indian Super League cup last season, is currently undefeated in the league and the fans are hopeful of winning the top-tier league title once again after the victorious I-League 2019-2020 campaign.

Just like the current season, Mohun Bagan had a great squad that guided them to their 2nd ever I-League title in the I-League 2019-2020 season. But since then, almost the entire squad has changed after entering into a partnership with RPSG Group, who owned the most successful team in the ISL yet, ATK, to enter the Indian Super League the following the season. Today in this article, we take a look at Mohun Bagan squad that won the I-League 2019-2020 season and where are they now.

Starting with the goalkeepers, Mohun Bagan had 3 great goalkeepers namely Sankar Roy, Debjit Majumdar and club legened Shilton Paul. Sankar Roy meanwhile is currently with Calcutta Football League (CFL) side Bhawanipore, who recently featured in the I-League 3. After leaving the club, Sankar played for the other two legacy clubs of Kolkata, East Bengal FC and Mohammedan SC. Meanwhile Debjit who was on loan from ATK, featured for East Bengal in the ISL and currently plays for Chennaiyin FC. Shilton meanwhile is currently free agent but did join Churchill Brothers FC Goa.

Fran Gonzalez and Fran Morate were the two top foreign defenders for the side, but Gonzalez was one of top goal scorer for the club that season with 10 goals. He turned out for the Bengaluru FC after leaving the club. He then joined Real Kashmir but returned to Spain after that joining Terrassa FC and currently features for Unión Puerto. Fran Morante meanwhile is currently a free agent while Ashutosh Mehta, star right-back is currently serving a doping ban. Club captain Dhanachandra Singh has not found any club since while Bikramjeet Singh, Gurjinder Kumar, Lalramchullova are currently with Diamond Harbour FC, Vatika FC and Bhawanipore FC respectively.

Star midfielders Joseba Beitia and Komron Tursunov have become a household name in India currently turning out for Delhi FC and Gokulam Kerala respectively in I-League. SK Sahil who was initially retained to play for the team in the ISL, couldn't impress and he currently plays for Aizawl FC on loan from Jamshedpur FC. Surabuddin Mallick plays for Diamond Harbour FC while SK Faiaz, Britto PM turns out for Mohammedan SC and Indian Navy. Nongdamba Noarem made his return to the team, who was on loan from Kerala Blasters that season, but played for the reserve team and now currently turns out for Jamshedpur FC. Suhair VP who was another star player for the team that season, moved to NorthEast United and now plays for East Bengal.

Papa Babacar Diawara who was the star striker for the team scoring 10 goals featured for the Punjab FC after Mohun Bagan and then played for Omani club Al-Nasr in  2021 and is currently as free agent. Subha Ghosh, who was then touted as highly potential striker, currently plays for Bhawanipore FC. Young forward Kiyan Nassiri, the son of East Bengal legend Jamshid Nassiri is the only player from that I-League squad who is still with Mohun Bagan Super Giant and plays for the team.
