ISL Yesterday match highlights

The opening match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-2024 season was played yesterday i.e. on September 21st between the Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru FC where the hosts picked-up a crucial 2-1 win over their rivals from the South.

The Indian Super League 2023-2024 kicked-off to a grand occasion when the hosts Kerala Blasters FC finally got the revenge of their last season's controversial Hero ISL Playoffs defeat.

The match was won by the hosts Kerala Blasters with 2-1 scoreline. It was Bengaluru's Keziah Veendorp who scored the first goal of the new season, but it was an own goal when he put ball into his own net from a corner-kick.

Kerala extended the lead through a mistake from Bengaluru FC captain and goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Kerala Blasters captain Adrian Luna capitalised on that. Bengaluru FC did get one goal back in the match towards the dying minutes of the match when substitute Curtis Main scored the consolation goal for the Blues.

It was a match started with end to end stuff with Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru FC taking a chance at each other. But, the 2nd half was mostly dominated by the Kerala Blasters FC whereas Bengaluru FC really struggled to keep hold of the ball.

The momentum really changed when Keziah Veendorp scored the goal. Bengaluru FC never looked settled in the match. The two debutante Ryan Williams and Keziah Veendorp failed to make any mark while Curtis Main scored the only goal for Bengaluru after coming on as a substitute.

Javi Hernandez, who was a reliable midfield option by the end of last season, was not in the starting XI, that completed ruined Bengaluru's game. Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters have a lot of positives to take forward. New signings Milos Drincic, Pritam Kotal and Prabir Das looked really well settled while youngster Sachin Suresh was a good presence in the goal. As for Adrian Luna, he has been the best player for Kerala Blasters over the last couple of seasons and continues to do so.

Bengaluru FC will play their next match away from home once again as they will face Mohun Bagan Super Giant on the 27th September. Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters will play their next match at home as well against Jamshedpur FC on the 1st of October.
