Yesterday, the Indian football team gave the Indian football fans a bumper performance as the Blue Tigers secured a terrific victory in the Semi-final of the SAFF Championship 2023 vs Lebanon to book their place in the Final vs Kuwait.

The Indian football team finished 2nd in their group in goal difference against Kuwait whereas Lebanon finished top of the points table which setup this spectacular Semi-Final clash between the Indian team and the Lebanon football team.

This was also the third time that the Indian football team and the Lebanon team faced off each other after both the teams having had squared off against each other previously twice in the Hero Intercontinental Cup, including the Final. The Sunil Chhetri led side won both the matches.

Team India took the field to make it 3-0 against Lebanon. However, it is the visiting team who started off greatly putting pressure constantly for the first 15 minutes against the Indian defence and goal.

However, the Blue Tigers took control of the match for the reminder of the 1st half, but failed to convert the chances they got. The 2nd half saw both teams coming at each other, but nothing could separate both the teams.

Team India dominated most of the extra-time of the match but still couldn't find the back of the net, meant that the match went into the penalty shootout.

The penalty shootout did in the end proved a good luck for the Indian team as they won the penalty shootout 4-2. For India, Sunil Chhetri, Anwar Ali, Naorem Mahesh Singh and Udanta Singh converted while for Lebanon, their captain Hassan Maatouk and Khalil Bader missed two penalties as India sealed the final berth.

Team India will now take on the Kuwait football team in the final of the SAFF Championship 2023 on the 4th July with the kick-off scheduled at 7:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
