The 2023 season of the Calcutta Football League (CFL) began with a great opening ceremony at the Kishore Bharati Stadium and the opening match of the new season of the Kolkata football league began with Diamond Harbour taking Southern Samity.

The Calcutta Football League (CFL) is one of the most oldest football competition in the Asia and is currently holding its 125th overall season of the competition since it was founded back in the year 1898.
Mohammedan Sporting Club (Mohammedan SC) is the current defending champions of the CFL having last won the CFL 2022 beating the likes of Bhawanipore, Aryan, Kidderpore and East Bengal Reserve team in the Super Six round.
This season, the Calcutta Football League will follow the new regulations set by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and for the first time, it won't allow the participation of any foreign players in the league as AIFF looks to find India's star striker after Sunil Chhetri.
Also new in this year's CFL is that the Premier A and Premier B divison both have been merged into one and this year's Calcutta Football League consists of a total of 26 teams in the competition.
The total 26 teams have been divided in two different groups and each group consists of 13 teams and will 1 match each against the other, that means one team will play a guaranteed 12 matches in the CFL 2023 season.
This season, the 2 of the 3 big clubs, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal have both opted to field their reserve team for the competition to give gametime to their youth players while Mohammedan will be playing with their full strength to claim their 14th CFL title.
