The Indian Super League 2020-2021 season's double winners Mumbai City FC have completed the signing of ISL 2021-2022 season's Hero of the League Greg Stewart on a free transfer.
With the summer transfer window set to start in the month of June, teams have already hit the market for what they need. And the most wanted name in this year's Indian market, Greg Stewart, has agreed on to sign for the Mumbai City FC.
Mumbai City FC recently finished off their season with a very successful campaign in the AFC Champions League 2022, finishing 2nd in their group, but not making it to the next group because of not being the 5 best 2nd placed teams.
Mumbai City FC, after a great success in the ISL 2020-2021 season winning double, had a average one, where they started well, but could give it the finishing touch, resulted in getting missed out of the playoffs.
And now, in a bid to return back to top 4 in the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-2023 season, Mumbai City FC have now completed the signing of the Hero of the League from this season, Greg Stewart, on a 2-year deal.
Greg Stewart had an outstanding season with the eventual League Winners' Shield winners Jamshedpur FC, reaching the double figure in both goals and assists.
Stewart had to make a great deliberation before opting to sign for Mumbai City, rejecting numerous other ISL bids. This obviously comes after Jamshedpur FC Head Coach Owen Coyle, who brought Stewart to India, left the club to take on duties at Queens Park FC.
A source close to the development informed to the Times of India that Greg had to make choices, one being whether to continue in India, and when he made his mind, off the multiple offers whom to sign for. The source also confirmed that Mumbai City led the race to sign him from the start to finish.
This does come as a major blow for the Jamshedpur FC fans, but Mumbai City fans will be witnessing the magic for next two-years.
