Bengaluru FC confirmed through their official website and social media handle that the club has signed German Marco Pezzaiuoli as the club's new head coach on a three-year performance-based deal that runs till the end of 2023-2024 season.

The club also announced that the new boss will not take charge of the club this Indian Super League season and his first assignment will start from Bengaluru FC's AFC campaign.

Bengaluru FC will play the AFC Cup preliminary stage first and if they come out victorious, only then they will be playing in AFC Cup group stage which also includes ATK Mohun Bagan.

The 52-year-old Germany born Italian was with German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt as a Technical Director in his previous job before joining the blues.

Parth Jindal, the director, was very delighted the appointment of the coach, “Marco brings with him tremendous experience of having worked with clubs in the top tier in Europe and Asia, along with a significant stint with the age-group sides of the German National Team. What drew me to appointing him was his intent, organisation and clarity of thought on how he wants to take Bengaluru FC back to where we belong. Our ambition has been to play the AFC Champions League and I believe Marco has the vision and style to lead us there. The senior team aside, his expertise with youth will go a long way in helping us further build on the success of our academy. Marco’s appointment is a statement of intent from the club and about how serious we are about bringing Bengaluru FC back to the top.”

The blues' new boss is very keen to join his new boys and can't wait to take charge of the team, “I’m very proud to be a part of Bengaluru FC, and excited about the challenge to bring the team back to the top. I am always keen to gather experiences in life and football and to be able to make a difference wherever I go. I’m also keen to share my experience to help Indian football grow. I’m really looking forward to joining the team as soon as I can.”

Club CEO Mandar Tamhane believes that Marco Pezzaiuoli is the best coach at the moment to full their vision, “When we parted ways with Carles Cuadrat in the middle of our ongoing Indian Super League season, we were in no rush to find a replacement simply because we had the long-term in mind. As always, we stayed true to our processes and were willing to wait it out till we found the perfect appointment who we thought could lead our vision ahead, and we seem to have found our man in Marco.”

Marco Pezzaiuoli has managed teams such as Suwon Bluewings, Eintracht Trier before joining Germany youth teams. He joined TSG Hoffenheim as an assistant manager in 2010 before was promoted to manager role 7 months later.

He was most recently part of Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt as a Technical Director but left the side in June 2020.

The fans of Bengaluru FC believes that Marco Pezzaiuoli could lead them to success with experience and most importantly, will bring in a quality striker which Bengaluru FC has been lacking since Miku left the club.

A fan gave us his reaction on the appointment, "Really looking forward to seeing the boss take charge of the team and hope he can build a strong squad next season and make us a contender again, and most importantly being in a quality striker which we have been lacking."
