Mumbai City FC Set to Sign Rahul Bheke from Bengaluru FC

Indian Super League franchise Mumbai City FC is set to sign Bengaluru FC right-back Rahul Bheke at the end of the current Indian Super League season, according to a report on The Bridge. Bheke's contract with Bengaluru FC will expire at the end of the season and so far there hasn't been talk of contract renewal between both parties.

For Bengaluru FC and Bheke, it was a weird season. The team from Bangalore had to endure a lot of drawbacks that include the likes injuries, key players not being in form, lacklustre defence and to wrap it off, the departure of former head coach Carles Cuadrat also played a massive role.

Naushad Moosa, who took over as an interim head coach, steadied the ship and while since then the team has shown what they are capable of when they are in peak form, it is reckoned that the recruitment of players will play a crucial role for the blues this summer.

With the team has already announced Marco Pezzaiuoli as the new head coach, a lot of changes are expected to made. The new boss will have an enormous role in foreign player recruitment.

Rahul Bheke, who is a natural right-back, had to play as a left-back on some occasion to fill in for injured Ashique Kuruniyan, while also shifted to central-defence in some matches.

When we tried to confirm the news, a source told us, "It has been going on since January, Lobera wanted Bheke during the winter window, but Bheke was playing a crucial part for Bengaluru FC and thus the blues declined the deal."

Bheke started his professional football journey with Air India FC back in 2013. He has featured for Kolkata giants East Bengal in the I-League. While played for Kerala Blasters and FC Pune City on loan in the Indian Super League before joining Bengaluru FC during the ISL expansion draft in 2017.
