The Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-2024 season is reaching its closing stage as the last matchweek of the season commences on the 10th of April with East Bengal FC taking on Punjab FC. While the race for the ISL Shield between Mumbai City FC and Mohun Bagan is the biggest talking point, the battle for the 6th and final ISL 2024 playoffs spot is also heating-up.

Owen Coyle's Chennaiyin FC just recently beat Juan Pedro Benali's NorthEast United FC to knockout the latter from the race while strengthening its chances of making it to the playoffs for the first time since the ISL 2019-2020 season, where they lost in the final against ATK.

With Chennaiyin's late win over NorthEast United FC, the battle for the 6th spot in the ISL League table is down to now between two teams, Chennaiyin FC and East Bengal FC.

Chennaiyin FC currently occupy the 6th spot while East Bengal is currently 7th with both the teams having one match remaining in the league phase. East Bengal FC take on Punjab FC while Chennaiyin FC go up against FC Goa.

How many teams can qualify for the ISL 2024 Playoffs?

Like last season, a total of 6 teams will qualify for the ISL 2024 Playoffs. While we already have 5 teams confirmed to feature in the playoffs (Mumbai City FC, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Odisha FC, FC Goa, Kerala Blasters FC), the battle for the 6th place is still wide open between Chennaiyin FC and East Bengal FC.

Can East Bengal FC still qualify for the ISL 2024 Playoffs?

Yes, East Bengal FC can still qualify of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-2024 playoffs with one match remaining in the league phase. Chennaiyin FC is currently 6th in the league stage with 27 points and East Bengal FC is currently 7th with 24 points.

East Bengal FC faces off against Punjab FC on the 10th April where the red and gold brigade must win to surpass Chennaiyin FC since East Bengal have better goal difference and Head-to-Head record in the season against Chennaiyin FC. A win against Punjab FC would put East Bengal in 6th place, but they also need to hope that Chennaiyin FC loses against FC Goa later this weekend on the 14th April. Even one point against FC Goa would be enough for Chennaiyin FC to qualify for the ISL 2024 Playoffs.
