Sérgio Barboza Junior, the 30-years-old Delhi FC forward was in great touch today at the Namdhari Stadium where Delhi FC hosted Shillong Lajong FC in a crucial match. Barboza Junior scored a hat-trick in the match to help his club Delhi FC beat Shillong Lajong FC 3-1.

Sérgio Barboza Junior scored goals at 64th minute from the penalty spot, on the 75th minute and then an added-time goal to complete his hat-trick. Shillong Lajong's Allen Lyngdoh could only bag a consolation goal for his club.

It was a match where both the teams could not be separated in the first-half as both the clubs failed to open the scoring. But in the 2nd-half, all the floodgates opened as Sergio Barboza Junior scored the first of the match from the spot on the 64th minute of the match.

The Brazilian added his 2nd goal on the 75th minute of the match to give Delhi FC a 2-0 lead. He completed his hat-trick on the added-time of the match to help Delhi FC take an unassailable 3-0 lead. Shillong Lajong in the end got a consolation goal as Allen Lyngdoh bagged the only goal for the Northeast club.

This win for the Delhi FC helps them get closer to their opponent today in the I-League 2023-2024 season points table. Shillong Lajong currently sits 6th in the league table while Delhi FC sits just behind them. This win has helped Delhi FC points total increase to 29 while Shillong Lajong have 31 points, with both the teams having played the same number of matches.

This has been a brilliant season for both the Delhi FC and the Shillong Lajong FC, who both got promoted into the I-League, the 2nd division of Indian football, from I-League 2, the third division of Indian football.
