The big day is here for the Indian football and the Indian football fans as the Indian national football team led by captain Sunil Chhetri is set to lead the side in a crucial match against the Asian champions Qatar football team in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier in Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Stadium on 21st of November.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier began with a bright spot for the Blue Tigers as the Indian football team registered an emphatic 1-0 win over the home side Kuwait in their first match of the qualifier thanks to a goal from Manvir Singh. Meanwhile, Qatar ran rampant against Afghanistan in their first match of the campaign.

The two teams are now set to square off in an exciting that has the whole country buzzing with long queues seen for tickets for the match. The Indian fans are ready to welcome the Asian champions and the FIFA World Cup 2022 hosts.

While a win against Qatar at moment seems like an unlikeliest of outcome, the Indian faithfuls are positive and set to stand by the Blue Tigers against The Maroons. This will be the 4th time that India will take on Qatar in a competitive match. Previously both the teams have played 3 matches, all of them in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

In the 3 matches, Qatar have won twice while 1 match ended in a draw, that too in Qatar in 2019.

The two teams faced off first in the year 1996 in the FIFA World Cup Qualifier where the Qatar football thrashed the Indian team. Then, more than 2 decades later, the Indian football team faced off against Qatar again in 2019 where India proved the mental, especially goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, thanks to his heroics between the sticks, India managed to pull off an outstanding 0-0 draw against the hosts.

In the return leg at home, the Blue Tigers once again proved difficult for the Asian champions but a 33rd minute goal from Abdulaziz Hatem helped Qatar scraped to a victory.
