The Durand Cup 2023 have got off to a great start as the Mohun Bagan Super Giant have steamrolled past the Bangladesh Army Football Team in the opening match of the Durand Cup 2023 played at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan.

Mohun Bagan produce 5-star performance vs Bangladesh Army in opening match

The much awaited Durand Cup 2023 kicked-off today at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan when the hosts Mohun Bagan Super Giant played against the Bangladesh Army Football Team in the opening match of the tournament.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant fielded a mix bunch of players involving some players from the senior team while some of them play for the reserve team.

Despite early pressure from the Bangladesh Army team, Mohun Bagan Super Giant displayed why they are one of the best team in the country despite having a mix bunch of players.

Liston Colaco gave Mohun Bagan the lead in the match 14th minute of the match when he tapped in a brilliant cross from right-back Ravi Rana. Mohun Bagan kept on piling pressure on the Army side.

They found the 2nd goal of the night when Manvir Singh converted from the penalty spot. Midfielder Hnamte was dropped in the box by Army player and Manvir made no mistake in converting the goal.

The 3rd goal of the match came at the 39th minute when young 18-years-old striker Suhail Ahmed Bhat scored his first goal of the Durand Cup, brilliantly chipping the goalkeeper.

Lalrinliana Hnamte made it 4-0 in the 2nd half when he tapped in a brilliant back pass from Manvir Singh. Liston Colaco took a free-kick and Manvir brilliantly behind pass it and Hnamte just tapped it in for the Mariners.

The 5th goal of the match right towards the end of the match when Kiyan Nassiri made it 5 star performance for the Mariners and made the fans. While his attempt was saved the first time, it just fall in Kiyan's feet again and he put in on the back of the net again.

With that, Mohun Bagan now go at the top of their group and they will next take on the newly promoted Indian Super League side Punjab FC in their 2nd match of the campaign on the 7th of August.
