Puitea signs for Odisha FC Mohun Bagan Super Giant

After joining the club in the January transfer window in the year 2023 during the Indian Super League 2022-2023 season, Mohun Bagan Super Giant midfielder Lalthathanga Khawlhring (also known as Puitea) is set to depart the team after a couple of months and is set to join Odisha FC for the upcoming season.

With the addition of top players such as the Indian football team duo Anirudh Thapa and Sahal Abdul Samad in the midfield region, Puitea believed his game time has been massively cut short, thus he demanded a transfer away from the club.

And now according to multiple reports, Puitea is set to join Sergio Lobera coached Odisha FC in a 3 year deal with Odisha paying an undisclosed transfer few to the Kolkata based club.

While the transfer of Puitea doesn't massively weaken the Mohun Bagan team, however, he would still need backup players in the midfield to over for Thapa or Sahal in case of injury.

With Ricky Shabong set to join Roundglass Punjab FC while Deepak Tangri and Glan Martins are different types of players, Mohun Bagan would be looking for a midfielder who can be a perfect backup for both Thapa and Sahal with the ability to play progressive passes.

3 Players who can Replace Puitea in Mohun Bagan After the Midfielder Joined Odisha FC

In that case, today in this article, we take a look at 3 players who can replace the outgoing Puitea in Mohun Bagan Super Giant for the upcoming season.

Sibajit Singh

The first player in our list in Mohun Bagan Super Giant reserve team player Sibajit Singh. Sibajit Singh is a brilliant midfielder who can very well fill-up the role of Anirudh Thapa, taking the ball from the defenders and then carrying it forward for the more attacking player. In short, he can work as a link between defence and attack.

Other than that, Sibajit is also a very good ball inceptor and can hold the opposition from creating attack. He can perfectly fit as a like-for-like for Anirudh Thapa. He has been exceptional for Mohun Bagan U21 team in the ongoing Calcutta Football League (CFL) 2023 season.

Ningombam Engson Singh

The next player in the list also includes a Mohun Bagan Super Giant reserve team player, last season young player of the season award winner at Mohun Bagan, his name is Ningombam Engson Singh.

While Engson Singh is normally a winger with brilliant skills, but recently he has been employed in the midfield by the reserve team coaches during the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL), the NextGen Cup and the ongoing CFL 2023.

Engson has equally stepped up to the role. With his brilliant dribbling ability he was already a good footballer, but it was seen during the initial few matches of the ongoing Calcutta Football League, Engson is pretty good with his ball control as well.

And when ball control meets with dribbling skill, it automatically becomes lethal. In that case, Engson can cover for both Sahal Abdul Samad and Anirudh Thapa, and if needed, he can switch to the wings as well.

Aniket Panchal

The next player in our is Mumbai Kenkre FC midfielder Aniket Panchal. Aniket is a Mumbai born midfielder who played for the Mumbai Kenkre in the I-League, but unfortunately his team got relegated.

Aniket has good dribbling and passing ability under his arsenal and is a very speedy midfielder. While he may not be as crunching during interception, he could still snatch the ball from opposition player.

He has also got good heading ability and can also read the game very well. His decision making and his physicality makes his already a upgrade over Puitea, however is currently a better player, but Aniket, if given good game time, could become even better than Puitea.

Aniket Panchal played 10 matches last season and also provided one assist. He is contracted for another season, but with Kenkre relegated to the 2nd Division League, 3rd-tier of Indian football, Mohun Bagan could be able to sign him for small sum.
