The Hero Indian Super League club FC Goa have today officially announced the signing of the experienced Spanish striker Carlos Martínez as a free agent signing ahead of the new Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-2023 season of Indian football.

The FC Goa team surprised everyone by announcing the departure of their star forward from last season, Iker Guarrotxena Vallejo despite having contract left with him.

A few minutes later, the club has officially announced the arrival of Carlos Martinez as the club's signing, whom the fans potentially believe to be a replacement for Iker Guarrotxena.

Carlos Martínez is a 37-years-old striker who started his football playing career for the Spanish side CF Badalona and played for their U19 team and the B team. In 2006, he changed his club twice, joined Cerdanyola FC in January and then joined Sant Celoni CF in June.

After being with the UE Rubi in 2007 and UDA Gramenet in 2009, he was signed for Villarreal, however, he never played for the senior. He also featured in Asia before with the Japanese club Tokyo Verdy in 2017 where he scored only 2 goals in 29 appearances in J-League 2. He last featured for the FC Andorra with whom his contract expired in June the 30th in 2023.

He had the best stint for a club with the FC Andorra club mainly in the Segunda Division, where he scored 35 goals in 99 appearances for the team. In total, the talismanic striker has played 241 matches in the Segunda Division and has scored 95 goals.

FC Goa earlier today gave the fans a big shocker as they announced the departure of their star forward Iker Guarrotxena just before announcing the deal with Martínez. Guarrotxena scored 11 goals in the Hero Indian Super League and then continued his form into the Hero Super Cup with 2 further goals in 3 matches. He had an existing contract to remain with the club for this season, however, due to unannounced reasons, the player mutually parted ways with the club.

Meanwhile, FC Goa have been very busy in the Transfer market. First and foremost, they secured the highly talented Manolo Marquez as their head coach for the season and then secured his former employee at Hyderabad FC, Odei Onaindia. Indian star defender Sandesh Jhingan has also joined the club for the new season.

Another player who will join Goa from Bengaluru FC is winger Udanta Singh, meanwhile Rowllin Borges will be returning back to his native club on loan from Mumbai City FC.

The club has also bid adieu to club captain and longest serving player Edu Bedia ahead of the new season.
