The year 2022 has come to its end with a couple of days left of the year. The year was full of mixed performance from India in various sports such as football and Indian football team matches were of no exception.
The Indian football team fixtures were interesting in the year 2022 where the Blue Tigers various opponents in number of friendly matches and the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers. The Blue Tigers, coached by Igor Stimac, played a total of 5 friendly matches in the year 2022 and the 3 matches in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifier.
Bahrain vs India
The year started for Team India with a defeat to Bahrain in the a International friendly during the March International window. India lost the match with a 2-1 scoreline where the only Goal was scored by Rahul Bheke for India.
India vs Belarus
The 2nd match in the March International window was against Belarus. The Blue Tigers suffered a big 3-0 defeat in that match played at the Stād Al-bahrayn Al-watanī or the Bahrain International Stadium.
India vs Jordan
The third match in the March International window was against Jordan. But it also ended in a sad note for the Indian team as they lost the match 0-2 to them with all 2 goals coming in at the final quarter of the match, after 75th minute.
India vs Cambodia
The focus then shifted to the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers as India faced Cambodia in the first of the scheduled 3 matches. The matches were played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata. India beat Cambodia in the 1st match by 2-0 with both goals for India came from captain Sunil Chhetri.
India vs Afghanistan
The 2nd match of the tournament was played between India and Afghanistan. It was also won by the Indian team, who won it 2-1 against the visiting team. Sunil Chhetri opened the account with a goal at the 86th minute, but Afghanistan equalized with a goal from Zubayr Amiri at the 88th minute. However, midfielder Sahal Abdul Salam displayed his magic and won the match for India with a Goal in the added time.
India vs Hong Kong
While the Afghanistan match was a close match between the two teams, Team India made the better of Hong Kong, scoring 4 past them. Anwar Ali scored the first goal and then captain Chhetri scored the 2nd. Manvir Singh scored the 3rd Goal while Ishan Pandita got his 1st International goal in this match at the 90+3 minute of the match.
India vs Singapore
After qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup Finals, Team India played 2 match friendlies against Singapore and Vietnam in the September international window. The first match against Singapore though ended in a draw. Singapore opened the scoring at the 37th minute, but Ashique Kuruniyan scored the equaliser for India at the 43rd minute.
India vs Vietnam
The year though ends on a sad note as the Blue Tigers suffered a 3-0 defeat against Vietnam. 3 different players scored for Vietnam and team India failed to give any fight to the Vietnam team.
The Indian football team matches and results in the year 2022 was a mixed bag and the Blue Tigers hope to have a better performance in the year 2023.
