Bengaluru FC will play home to visiting team NorthEast United on the 20th of November in their respective first match of the ISL 2021-2022 season.
Both the teams will be aiming to get off to a flying start in the league and thus, a win first is very important for both the teams.
Bengaluru FC, the home team, will be playing under a new Head Coach Marco Pezzaiuoli, who took over the team after the end of ISL 2020-2021 season. Bengaluru FC didn't enjoy the best of season last time around, thus, former Head Coach Carles Cuadrat got sacked midway. There's a new dawn on the horizon as the 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 prepare for a fifth #HeroISL campaign, with a clash against NorthEast United. Let's go! 🔵⚡#WeAreBFC #ComeTogether pic.twitter.com/9DsXibmuEO
Bengaluru FC finished 7th last season, which is the club's worst position in the ISL. And therefore, throughout the transfer window, Bengaluru FC have brought in new faces to strengthen their team. Especially in the foriegn department, where as much as 5 new foreign players have come in, only Cleiton Silva was retained.
Whereas, it was the same story for NorthEast United as well in the league last season, but the finish was little better than Bengaluru. NorthEast United also sacked their Head Coach Gerard Nus midway the season and assistant coach Khalid Jamil took over. From there, there was no stopping and the Highlanders reached playoffs for the 2nd time in their history.
But, they suffered defeat against ATK Mohun Bagan in the semi-final, therefore, NorthEast United's dream of making it to the Final was cut short. This time around, Khalid Jamil has appointed as full-time Head Coach, thus, becomes the first Indian to be a Head Coach of an ISL team.
Head-to-Head
Bengaluru FC and NorthEast United have faced each other 10 times in the Indian Super League history. Bengaluru have 5 time, NorthEast United have won once and 4 matches ended in draw, out those 2 are from last season as both matches between Bengaluru and NorthEast United ended in draw.
Key Players
Bengaluru FC - Sunil Chhetri
Bengaluru FC's captain Sunil Chhetri will be someone to keep your eyes on. The veteran Indian striker is the 2nd highest goalscorer in the ISL history and likely to overtake Coro to become the highest goalscorer in the league. Sunil Chhetri has played 94 matches in the ISL and has scored 47 goals.
NorthEast United - Deshorn Brown
Deshorn Brown will be someone to keep your eye on from NorthEast United's end. Deshorn Brown will be Highlanders' main striker this season, and he signed for NorthEast United in January from Bengaluru FC after having a bad phase with with them. However, fortunes changed for him, as he scored 5 goals for NorthEast United after failing to score even a single goal for Bengaluru FC.
