La Liga giants Real Madrid C.F has today officially announced the departure of club captain and long serving French striker Karim Benzema, who is in all likelihood going to make a move to Saudi Arabia to join Al-Ittihad FC to play in the Saudi Pro League with legendary Cristiano Ronaldo already playing in that league.

Long-serving striker Karim Benzema set to depart Real Madrid

Karim Benzema is leaving Real Madrid after serving the club for the last approx 16 years for the Los Blancos. Benzema joined Real Madrid during the summer transfer window in 2009.

The French striker throughout most of his career for Madrid side played as a 2nd fiddle to veteran Cristiano Ronaldo. But after the Portuguese legendary striker left, Benzema made sure that Real Madrid don't miss Ronaldo.

Benzema was part of the signing spree done by Real Madrid during the 2009 summer transfer when they signed all of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso. Benzema joined the Los Blancos from French side Olympique Lyon.

Karik Benzema was just 21-years-old when he joined the club and thus far has won the Champions League 5 times, the Club World Cup and European Super Cup 4 times. He also won the La Liga 4 times with Real Madrid and also won the Ballon d'Or for outstanding season during the 2021-2022 season, when Real Madrid won both the La Liga and Champions League.

However, the 2022-2023 season didn't go as planned for the Madrid side. While they won the FIFA Club World Cup, they were knocked-out of the Champions League semi-finals by Manchester City while rivals Barcelona dominated and won the La Liga title.
