5 Players who can replace Sandesh Jhingan at ATK Mohun Bagan

It has been a great transfer window in Indian football with surprises all around the corner. But, we are officially on the last month of the Indian football transfer window, which ends on August 31st, just like in the European countries.

The transfer window has so far been dominated by the ATK Mohun Bagan team who brought in Indian players like Amrinder Singh, Deepak Tangri on free transfer while paid near about 1 crore for Liston Colaco. They also shuffled the midfield with introduction of Finland's EURO 2020 member Joni Kauko on free and attacking midfielder Hugo Boumous joined for record transfer fee in Indian football history so far from Mumbai City FC.

With the incomings, the team also saw some quality players leave the club, like Jayesh Rane, Joby Justin, Komal Thatal and Edu Garcia and Javi Hernandez among the foreigner.

But the biggest departure from ATK Mohun Bagan could well be none other than one of their captain and a very important member of their defence line, Sandesh Jhingan, who is reportedly set to accept an overseas experience.

A Times of India report confirmed that India international defender Sandesh Jhingan has received offers from top division clubs from Austria, Croatia and Greece. The player has also not joined ATK Mohun Bagan training for their upcoming AFC Cup campaign.

The report however has created a lot of questions on ATK Mohun Bagan's fans' mind. And one very important question is, who will replace Sandesh Jhingan at ATK Mohun Bagan. We present to you some options who can replace Jhingan in the team. We have only selected Indian players.

Sumit Rathi

ATK Mohun Bagan has insane amount of squad depth, thus, they already have Sandesh Jhingan's replacement in the squad itself. And that man could very well be Indian Super League 2019-2020 Emerging Player of the Season award winner Sumit Rathi.

Sumit Rathi is touted as the next leader of the Indian defence line and could very well be the next leader of the ATK Mohun Bagan defence line.

The 19-year-old still has a long future ahead of him and ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Antonio Lopez Habas has nothing but praise for the youngster. During the 2019-20 season, Sumit Rathi was a very confident player and showed no hesitant in fighting against top foreign attacks. Reportedly, ATK Mohun Bagan rejected a 60 lakh transfer offer for the youngster and is well within the plans of the head coach.

Deepak Tangri

Deepak Tangri is a new addition to ATK Mohun Bagan this season, but knows the weight of the green and maroon having come through the Mohun Bagan academy.

Deepak Tangri is a versatile player who can play both as a centre-back and centre defensive midfielder. Deepak Tangri played the last season for Chennaiyin FC and was an important player of their team. He featured in 17 matches for them and got valuable 1008 minutes of match time.

Deepak Tangri scored 1.5 interception per game, 1.4 tackles per game and 1.6 clearances per game. He has won 51% total duals of which he has won 49% ground duels and 51% aerial duels last season.

Sandesh Jhingan's departure from ATK Mohun Bagan might play out very well for Deepak Tangri. He is also likely to be seen playing in CDM position.

Pritam Kotal

Club captain Pritam Kotal, who is mainly a right back, can also play as a central-defender and we have seen him do this a lot of times. With the addition of Ashutosh Mehta in right back position and Prabir Das already in the club, it can be expected that Pritam Kotal might play in centre of the defence.

He has mainly played as a right sided central-defender for Antonio Lopez Habas' team in the Indian Super League. He can also be a good option at front during corners as we have seen him score goals from set-pieces.

Deepak Devrani

Those were the players who are already at the club. But talking about bringing in new players, one option that the management can really consider is Deepak Devrani. The player however has signed for Chennaiyin FC for the upcoming season on a year long deal. Thus, the deal can only be done next season.

He played an important role in the centre of defence for Gokulam Kerala and helped them to win their first ever I-League trophy last season.

Deepak Devrani is a physically strong player and can be a like for like replacement for Sandesh Jhingan at ATK Mohun Bagan and might turn out an instant hit at the legendary club.

Chinglensana Singh

Another option could be Chinglensana Singh from Hyderabad FC. Chinglensana Singh impressed everyone with his defensive performance for the Nizam's. And as a result of his performance, he got called up to the Indian national team and made his debut against Oman during international friendlies.

The player has another year left in his contract and said to be ready to sign an extension with the Hyderabad FC till 2025. But, it is very unlikely that ATK Mohun Bagan will go for him as head coach Antonio Lopez Habas prefers physically strong players and Chinglensana Singh plays as a ball playing defender.

So above are the options who could replace Sandesh Jhingan at ATK Mohun Bagan. However, as of writing this, the player has not agreed to join any teams yet.

But, it is Sandesh Jhingan's dream to represent India abroad and is very likely to sign one of the multiple teams who have made him an offer. Now it will be interesting to see if Jhingan does leave, will Antonio Lopez Habas go with Sumit Rathi, who will be a long term solution for the team or will they go for more experienced player.
