Indian Super League franchise ATK Mohun Bagan have retained the services of their head coach Antonio Lopez Habas for another season.
Antonio Lopez Habas Extend Contract with ATK Mohun Bagan till 2022
On Wednesday, ATK Mohun Bagan announced the contract extension of head Antonio Lopez Habas till the end of the 2021-2022 season.
Habas got the reward for taking the team to the final of the Hero Indian Super League on the club's debut season in the country's top-tier competition, with that, he also ensured that ATK Mohun Bagan qualifies for AFC Cup after finishing runners-up in the league phase.
The 63-year-old's current contract was set to expire at the end of the season, but ATK Mohun Bagan made it sure the league's most successful manager stays for another season.
ATK Mohun Bagan finished second in the league phase, behind Mumbai City FC, and then later lost the final match to the same opposition team. The green and maroon brigade will now play in the AFC Cup this season that is slated to start from 14th May.
“I am very happy and determined about the new project. This time AFC will be our prime target" told the Spaniard to Khel Now after penning the deal.
The 63-year-old arrived in India in 2014 as the head coach of Atletico De Kolkata in the inaugural season of the Indian Super League and guided the team to victory.
He has managed in India in total 5 years, 2 years Atletico De Kolkata, 1 year for FC Pune City, 1 year for ATK (formerly Atletico De Kolkata) and 1 year for ATK Mohun Bagan.
