The Indian football team produced one of the most frustrating performance in their FIFA World Cup qualifiers match vs Afghanistan in Saudi Arabia in a match that ended in goalless draw. Meanwhile, Qatar managed to get the better of Kuwait at home in their respective match.
Lots of hopes were on the Igor Stimac led Indian football team, captained by Sunil Chhetri, that the Blue Tigers will get a good result against an Afghanistan team which is not their first choice team.
In the FIFA World Cup qualifier match held at Damac Stadium in Saudi Arabia between India and Afghanistan, although India had better of the chances between both the teams, Indian attack lacked the finishing ability and being critical infront of the goal.
Afghanistan themselves also had some good opportunities to take a lead in the match, but they were wasteful infront of the goal. Despite several chances, Indian footballers struggled to keep hold of the ball and pass it around with ease with Afghanistan players pressing high to force errors from the Indian players.
In the end, it ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw where the Indian football were expecting a total of 6 points from their both matches against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Qatar performed upto the expectation where they were favourite to win the match. The Maroons won the match 3-0 at home.
With this results, Qatar maintain their position at the top of the group A in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Team India have climbed to 2nd place with the draw while Kuwait is behind India on 3rd. Afghanistan rock-bottom but have a point beside them after the draw vs India. India will next take on Afghanistan on the 26th of March in India. The match will be played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.
