The Calcutta Football League (CFL) 2023 tournament has almost reached its conclusion stage with now the final 6 teams for the Super Six stage of the competition is taking shape. So far, quite the number of matches have been played in the CFL 2023 season and only a few matches left.
Calcutta Football League 2023: Confirmed Super Six Phase Teams
This season of the Kolkata footbal league (Calcutta Football League) was much different to the previous editions of the premier football in West Bengal.
This season, all the clubs of the Premier A and Premier B division was merged into one league of 26 teams in the Calcutta Football League 2023 season. All the 26 teams were randomly divided into the 2 groups of 13 teams each.
With Group A and Group B having 13 teams each in both the groups, all the clubs from both the groups were scheduled to play a total of 12 matches in the regular league season. As per the rules, 3 clubs each from both the group, a total of 6 clubs, would then progress to the Super Six phase of the league that will eventually decide the winner of the Calcutta Football League (CFL) 2023 season.
Meanwhile, as of 8th September 2023, all the clubs from Group A have played their 12 matches respectively and the 3 teams who will progress to the Super Six phase has been confirmed. In the Group B though, a total of 2 out 3 teams have already booked their place in the Super Six phase of the Calcutta Football League and one spot still remains open.
Front Group A, after playing their all 12 matches of the regular league season, it is East Bengal FC who stands at the top of the group with 30 points. East Bengal is undefeated in the tournament having won 9 of their matches and drawn 3 matches. Behind them is Bhawanipore FC with 27 points. At third place is Kidderpore SC with 25 points to their name.
Meanwhile from Group B, both Mohammedan Sporting Club and Diamond Harbour FC have so far confirmed their place in the Super Six phase with 28 and 26 points respectively for both the clubs. Both the clubs still have one match in hand against Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Meanwhile, as of writing this, it is Kalighat MS that is currently in third place with 24 points. The other team still in contention to make it to the Super Six phase from Group B is Mohun Bagan Super Giant who have 3 matches remaining.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will play against Peerless SC on Sunday and then they are further scheduled to face Mohammedan Sporting Club and Diamond Harbour next after that.
