Odisha FC set to sign Edu Garcia Indian Super League ISL 2023-2024

UPDATE: As per their latest acquisitions, Odisha FC have pulled out of the deal to sign Edu Garcia and will sign an Asian quota player as their last foreign player for the upcoming season.

Former Bengaluru FC, ATK, ATK Mohun Bagan and Hyderabad FC midfielder Edu Garcia is set to make his return to Indian football as the attacking midfielder is set to sign for the Sergio Lobera coached Odisha FC for the Indian Super League and Indian football 2023-2024 season.

Odisha FC set to sign Edu Garcia on recommendation from Sergio Lobera

Edu Garcia is a renowned name in the Indian football scenes. He first arrived in India with the Bengaluru FC back in the year 2017. He last featured for the Hyderabad FC before making a move to Chinese 2nd Division to play for Sergio Lobera coached Sichuan Jiuniu.

Lobera meanwhile made his return to Indian football this season as he has taken charge of the Odisha FC for the new Indian football season. Garcia is now following his footsteps and making his return to India and Odisha FC on Lobera's advise.

While playing for Sichuan Jiuniu, Edu Garcia featured in 27 League One (Chinese 2nd Division) matches and scored 8 goals under Sergio Lobera's coaching.

Garcia first arrived in Indian football with Bengaluru FC, for whom he played 14 matches and scored 2 goals and 3 assists. He was then sold to a Chinese club. He returned to Indian football again in 2019, this time with ATKFC and played 24 matches for them and scored 9 goals and 5 assists. He then played for ATK Mohun Bagan, but wasn't a big success.

He then moved to Hyderabad FC and played 11 matches for them and scored 2 goals and 1 assists.

As for Odisha FC, they qualified for the Hero ISL Playoffs for the first time, but lost to ATK Mohun Bagan in the Indian Super League 2022-2023 season. They had finished 6th time the league table to reach the playoffs. But, then they parted ways with coach Joseph Gombau and received lot of criticism for that.

However, they then joined in a battle with East Bengal to get the signature of one of the very successful manager in India, Sergio Lobera and were successful in doing so. They will now be hoping to make step forward in the coming season.

Odisha FC transfer news

Odisha FC has been very busy this summer so far. They have managed to tie club captain Carlos Delgado and star striker Diego Mauricio to a contract extension for the next season. They have also managed to rope in Sergio Lobera's former students in Mourtada Fall and Ahmed Jahouh from Mumbai City FC.

It is also likely that Mandar Rao Dessai could another of his former student joining him while Lenny Rodrigues has also agreed to join. Meanwhile midfielder Vinit Rai has left the team and is likely to sign for Mumbai City FC.
